چکیده

T he properties of large conductance C a2+-dependent K + channels in smooth muscle cells (smc) isolated from norm al and atherosclerotic hum an aorta were studied using the patch-clam p technique. It was shown tha t smc from norm al hum an aorta possess a homogeneous population of norm al C a2+-dependent K + channels. In atherosclerotic aorta two kinetically different types of these channels could be distinguished: along with norm al ‘lo n g ’ (L)-type channels there appeared channels o f ‘sh o rt’ (s)-type. U nder similar conditions s-type channels had about a four times shorter m ean open time. A bout five times higher [C a2+]in was necessary for s-type channels to reach the probability of the channels being open equal to L-type channels. No differences in.conductance and voltage dependency were found between the two channel types. Channels of the s-type resembled those previously described in smc isolated from foetal hum an aorta. Thus, it can be suggested th a t during the developm ent of atherosclerosis a population of smc with s-type Ca -dependent K + channels appears i

Saffron Induced Relaxation in Isolated Rat Aorta via Endothelium Dependent and Independent Mechanisms

Crocus sativus L. (saffron) is a widely used food additive for its color and taste. The hypotensive effects of saffron have been shown in previous studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanism of vasodilatory effects induced by saffron on isolated rat aorta. To study the vasodilatory effects of saffron aqueous extract (0.5, 1 and 2 mg/mL), isolated rat thoracic aorta rings were co...

Calcium Antagonistic Activity of Biophytum Petersianum on Vascular Smooth Muscles of Wistar Rat

The whole plant of Biophytum petersianum was extracted with a mixture of water – alcohol (1:1) to evaluate its relaxant effect on aorta rings. In isolated Wistar rat tissue, the hydro-ethanolic extract (0.1; 0.25 and 0.5 mg/ml) non-competitively antagonized calcium chloride and high-K + - induced aorta contractions in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, the inhibition of noradr...

Histological Study of the Elastic Artery, Muscular Artery, and Their Junction in Neonate Dog

Introduction: We did this study because there were a few studies about aorto-branch junction. Methods: Four light microscope and electron microscope study, the abdominal aorta, renal artery, and the adjoining right and left renal arteries were dissected out from 4 neonate dogs. Results: Based on the results, there is only one cell type in the tunica intima of endothelium in both art...
